Sunderland College has been delivering highly successful courses for more than 20 years and is one of the largest providers of post-16 education in the North East with approximately 14,300 students.
The College has two campuses across the city of Sunderland, offering a wide range of academic and vocational provision for school leavers and adults. Taking Teaching Further & Additional Incentives
If you’re making the move into further education teaching, you may be eligible for the Taking Teaching Further (TTF) programme, a funded route to help industry professionals retrain as FE teachers.
In addition, for roles in high-need subjects or regions you may also benefit from the government’s targeted retention incentive (formerly “levelling-up premium”) payments, worth up to £6,000 for eligible teachers in their first five years and teaching certain shortage subjects.
Please note eligibility for both TTF and the Targeted Retention Incentive varies by role, subject area, and provider; they do not apply to every vacancy.

About The Role
As a Maths Teacher, you will deliver engaging and high-quality lessons that ignite curiosity and build confidence in mathematics. You will challenge, support, and inspire students to achieve beyond their expectations while fostering a culture where every learner believes they can succeed.
We are looking for someone who is not only an excellent classroom practitioner but also a changemaker; someone who can influence outcomes, challenge barriers to achievement, and create lasting impact both inside and outside the classroom.
As Part Of Our Team, You Will
- Raise aspirations and achievement for all students, particularly those who may have previously lacked confidence in mathematics.
- Champion equity and inclusion, ensuring every learner has the support and challenge they need to thrive.
- Use innovative teaching approaches and technology to enhance student engagement and outcomes.
- Develop students' problem-solving, analytical thinking, and resilience, preparing them for success in life and work.
- Lead initiatives that promote a positive culture around mathematics across the campus.
- Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve teaching, learning, and curriculum design.
- Inspire students to see mathematics as a tool for opportunity, progression, and future careers.
- Act as a role model who demonstrates high expectations, ambition, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
We Are Looking For Someone Who
- Has a level 5 qualification in Teaching and Learning or a commitment to complete within 2 years.
- Has a qualification in Mathematics or a related subject.
- Is passionate about delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
- Has strong subject knowledge and a commitment to continuous professional development.
- Believes every student can succeed regardless of background or starting point.
- Is innovative, resilient, and excited by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
- Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Wants to contribute to the wider life and strategic development of the school.
