The Role
The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice is the largest criminology department in the UK with an established presence in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral education, complemented by a successful applied criminology research profile.
The University has secured TEF Gold status and is aiming to be the top modern University. The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice will make a significant contribution towards achieving this aim.

These posts will be 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) and fixed term for a minimum period of 3 years and will be based at the University of Portsmouth, London Campus. A relevant teaching qualification is required, or the successful candidate will be expected to complete a PGCert within the first year of appointment.
This post is focused on teaching within the BSc Professional Policing Practice (Hons) programme, also known as the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA). The successful candidate will work primarily with the Metropolitan Police, based at the Peel Centre, Hendon, and with other police forces on the south coast, helping to deliver high-quality police education that equips student officers with the academic knowledge and professional skills required for modern policing.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of the next generation of police officers, working at the intersection of higher education and operational policing practice.
The post holder will make a major contribution to the 17-week foundation training element of the PCDA. This requires extensive operational policing experience, ideally with knowledge of the PCDA, and includes face-to-face teaching, student support, and co-delivery with MPS trainers.
The post holders will be expected to teach between 07:00 and 22:00 on a weekly rotational basis, Monday to Friday. This means that one week they will start teaching at 07:00 and finish at 15:00, and the following week they will start at 14:00 and finish at 22:00.
The post will be based mainly at the Peel Centre, Hendon, North London, and at the Middlesex University campus. However, the post holder will need to be flexible in traveling to other police training centres as required. They may also be required to teach in our other police partner areas, including Thames Valley Police, Hampshire, and Sussex.
This appointment is a fixed-term contract for a period of 3 years.
This role requires access to police premises and engagement with police officers and staff. As such, we will require the successful candidate to undertake the ‘Non Police Person Personnel Vetting’ (NPPV) Level 2 process.

Salary Information
New appointments will routinely be made to the entry spine point (minimum) for the advertised grade, from where the individual will (in addition to receiving annual cost-of-living-related increases) progress through the pay range to the maximum for the grade, within a reasonable timeframe. This ensures fairness, consistency, and transparency in our pay structures. A higher starting salary or market supplement may be available for a truly exceptional candidate when circumstances fully justify a departure from our normal policy.
