Lecturer in Marine Biology / Ecology (Education and Scholarship)

About The Role

This full-time post is available from 1 November 2026 on a fixed term basis for a period of 9 months.

The starting salary will be from £44,352 to £49,798 on Grade F, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.

The Role

Faculty of Environment, Science & Economy

The post of Lecturer in Marine Biology / Ecology will contribute to the teaching and learning material in the fields of Marine Biology and Ecology.

This post is externally funded and will support the development and delivery of a new Postgraduate certificate in Conservation Biology.

The Post Will Include

  • Use appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods, supervise student projects and the academic elements of field trips, and, where appropriate placements.
  • Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement and contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material.
  • Select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to the students.
  • Set, mark and assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students.
  • Ensure that module design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the university and Faculty.

  • A PhD (or nearing completion) in Marine Biology or equivalent of the core knowledge relating to the academic area in order to teach and support learning on modules.
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of own specialism to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field.
  • Have experience of teaching, curriculum development and quality management and enhancement in an HE environment.
