Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Computing, Engineering & the Built Environment (SCEBE) has around 220 academics, approximately 4,000 students, and delivers programmes with professional accreditations from the Institution of Engineering and Technology, The Chartered Institute of Building, British Computer Society, Institution of Engineering and Technology, and other accreditation bodies.
The School has one of the UK's largest Built Environment departments and it houses leading UK research centres in transportation and sustainable construction.
Opportunity
Currently, we have an opportunity to join us as a Lecturer in Built Environment on a fixed-term basis, to assist in developing our expanding portfolio of programmes, while contributing to the growing international standing of our research.
The Role
As a Lecturer in Built Environment, you will have the opportunity to use your expertise in Quantity Surveying and the Digital Built Environment to deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching and learning that is informed by excellent research and supports innovation across the built environment sector.
Your subject expertise will enable you to contribute to the development and delivery of an innovative curriculum that reflects the digital transformation of the construction industry, teaching across areas including Cost planning & controlling, Whole Life Costing, Commercial Management, Procurement, Contract Administration, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Digital Cost Management, and other emerging digital technologies that are shaping the future of the built environment.

Your subject matter expertise in Quantity Surveying and Digital Built Environment will also put you in an excellent position to contribute to and build programmes and modules to support the delivery and expansion of the School’s Built Environment portfolio. You will be mentored and guided by Edinburgh Napier staff in the delivery of modules, using materials provided, but we also welcome your input into course delivery, content and teaching pedagogy.
Furthermore, you will be in an excellent position to monitor the performance of students, working with our Academic Skills colleagues and other University services to best support their progress using assessment instruments provided, and under the guidance of experienced staff.
You will also have remit to conduct your own research and will benefit from:
- A research allowance of 30% of your time to expand your research – which can be increased further through external funding.
- Access to our staff development budget for travel to conferences and to establish collaborations.
- Extensive training and development opportunities through our Human Resources (HR) and Research, Innovation and Enterprise Office (RIE).
- Support for grant applications and post-award running of grants from professional services colleagues in the schools and the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Office (RIE).
- Opportunities to lead or join PhD student supervisory teams.
- Opportunities to contribute to the leadership of the research group.

What we will need from you
- A relevant doctoral-level qualification or equivalent in Built Environment.
- Demonstrated expertise and strong background in Quantity Surveying and Digital Built Environment
- Evidence of strong academic standing in research and teaching & learning.
- A sustained track record of internationally excellent quality output in the research area of Built Environment or related areas, appropriate for the level of lecturer.

Additional information
- Salary: £46,049 – £58,225 p/a (depending on experience)
- Contract: Fixed Term – 12 months, Full Time – 35 hrs/wk
