Job Title: Lecturer in Computing
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
Salary: £43,482 to £48,823 per annum, Band 6
Contract status: Fixed term - 1 year
Location: Ipswich Campus (Agile - minimum 60% on campus)
We are seeking a passionate and committed Lecturer in Computing to contribute to the delivery and continued development of our undergraduate and postgraduate Computing provision within the School of Business, Arts, Social Sciences and Technology.
Our Computing portfolio includes pathways in cyber security, web and mobile development, software programming, network engineering, and artificial intelligence, delivered through hands-on, interactive, and industry-focused teaching. You will play an important role in delivering high-quality, student-centred learning and assessment, supporting student achievement, and contributing to scholarly activity, research, and knowledge exchange.
As a Lecturer, you will:
- Plan and deliver effective learning, teaching, and assessment in collaboration with colleagues across the Computing team.
- Contribute to course, programme, and module activity.
- Support students through inclusive and responsive teaching practice.
- Engage in subject, professional, and pedagogical scholarship to support high-quality learning and teaching.
The delivery and development of core Computer Science subjects is essential for this role. Contemporary experience of Computing and Cyber Security is required, and experience of working in a higher education environment is desirable.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute to research, scholarship, consultancy, knowledge exchange, and continuing professional development activity within the discipline, helping to raise the academic profile of the University of Suffolk and strengthen our external networks.

About The Team
You will join the Computing team within the Technology and Engineering subject area, part of the wider School of Business, Arts, Social Sciences, and Technology. The team delivers a diverse portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and is committed to inclusive, high-quality education that responds to industry needs and student aspirations.
We pride ourselves on a collaborative, supportive culture where colleagues work closely across teaching, scholarship, and external engagement. The team values innovation in pedagogy, reflective practice, and strong links with employers and professional bodies.
About You
You will have expertise in Computing or Computer Science, with specific knowledge in Cyber Security, a strong commitment to delivering an excellent student experience, and the ability to plan and organise your work effectively to meet objectives and deadlines.
You will bring:
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, with an appropriate postgraduate qualification or equivalent.
- Contemporary knowledge and experience of Computing and Cyber Security.
- The ability to plan, deliver, and assess high-quality learning and teaching.
- The ability to use research evidence effectively and the potential to engage in relevant research and/or scholarship.
- An understanding of quality assurance processes and inclusive approaches to student support.
In addition, you will demonstrate:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- A collaborative, flexible, and professional approach to working with colleagues and students.
- A strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive learning.
- Openness to new ideas, new ways of working, and ongoing professional development.
A recognised HE teaching qualification, or commitment to achieve Fellowship of Advanced HE status within the required timeframe, is essential. Experience of working in higher education, Degree Apprenticeship teaching or course development, and curriculum development skills are desirable.
