About Us
Founded in 1902, UCL Institute of Education has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just, and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
The Department of Culture, Communication and Media (CCM) is a department of IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society. It is committed to excellence in teaching, research and consultancy in the areas of: Media and Cultural Studies, Art, Design and Museology; Academic writing; English education: Applied Linguistics; Music Education; Multimodality studies; Learning with Digital Technologies.
We are looking to appoint an exceptional Lecturer in Contemporary Moving Image.
UCL's BA Media blends creative media production and critical thinking through practice-as-research. Unlike purely practical film production or game development programmes, students critically engage with theories of media and technology, addressing these concepts directly within their practical work. Students explore digital and neural media, interactive storytelling, worldbuilding, fine art, programming, and animatics through making, experimentation, and reflection. https://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/undergraduate/degrees/media-ba

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You
You will be a creative practitioner with a recognised practice in contemporary moving image fields, and demonstrable experience in directing and presenting ambitious public-facing moving image productions. You will teach moving image as an experimental and critical medium, making use of film and video technologies, animation, virtual production, storytelling alongside key competencies in camera and lighting, NLEs (Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve), and direction of projects involving cast and/or crew, from development through to delivery/presentation.
With a doctorate (completed or close to completion) or comparable professional practice or/and industry experience, in games development, art and technology or creative computing, you will also have evidence of potential to produce internationally excellent, original and significant practice and research.
