The Role
The School of Biomedical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences, part of our Faculty of Medical Sciences, is seeking to appoint a passionate and committed Lecturer in Dietetics and Human Nutrition on a permanent basis.
The School is a lively, friendly community with research, innovation and teaching strengths across nutrition and dietetics, sport and exercise science and biomedical sciences. The School has seen significant growth and development in recent years including over £57 million investment in new state-of-the-art teaching and laboratory facilities located within the Dame Margaret Barbour Building and the Sports Centre.
As a Lecturer in Dietetics and Human Nutrition, you will be significantly involved in the development and delivery of a range of high-quality teaching and learning activities supporting our HCPC approved and BDA accredited MDiet Dietetics programme, alongside contributions to other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the School.
The role includes developing and delivering teaching activities, marking assessments, UG and/or PG project supervision, providing pastoral support and participating in the management and administration of the degree programme(s) as required. The successful candidate will contribute to the School’s academic community through educational leadership, scholarship, professional engagement and the ongoing development of innovative teaching and learning approaches. Applicants will be HCPC registered dietitians with experience in clinical and/or community practice, and will demonstrate an interest in supporting the development of the future dietetic workforce.

Key Accountabilities
Teaching & Learning
- Provide high quality teaching, learning and student support
- Mentor and support students throughout their studies in the role of academic advisor
- Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with University standards and utilise online and digitised curricula and education frameworks
- Design, develop and enhance curriculum content that reflects contemporary dietetic practice, professional standards and advances the evidence base
- Contribute to the delivery and assessment of practice-based learning and support students in preparation for professional placements and registration
- Ensure all our students benefit from studying in a research intensive, research excellent academic environment
- Design and supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate research and evidence-based projects
- Provide education for life, that engages, challenges and supports our students to discover and fulfil their potential both while they are studying with us and once they have graduated

Scholarship and Professional Practice
- Contribute to the advancement of dietetics and human nutrition through scholarship, knowledge exchange, research and/or professional practice activities
- Maintain professional expertise and contemporary knowledge of dietetic practice, ensuring this informs teaching, curriculum development and student learning
- Engage with relevant professional, clinical, public health and community stakeholders to support educational excellence and graduate employability
- Support the evaluation and enhancement of educational practice through evidence-informed approaches and innovation
- Develop and sustain strategic partnerships with NHS, public health, and third-sector organisations to support teaching, placement learning, scholarship and knowledge exchange
- Contribute to student research, scholarship and evidence-based practice activities

- Contribute to the Vision, Mission and Strategy of the School and University
- Operate as an active citizen in the School of Biomedical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences and Human Nutrition and Exercise Research Centre communities

- Support national and international activities for the development of the discipline
- Take responsibility for a defined management or administrative role such as Module Leader, Year Tutor, Degree Programme Director or Outreach Co-ordinator

The Person
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Experience of delivering, supporting or facilitating learning within higher education, professional education, healthcare practice, clinical training or related settings
- Ability to teach dietetics, nutrition and related subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Current knowledge of UK professional standards, contemporary issues and emerging developments in dietetics and human nutrition
- Wide-ranging experience in clinical and/or community dietetics
- Ability to design and supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate student projects
- Experience of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage students and colleagues effectively
- Ability to engage with external stakeholders including healthcare providers, professional bodies and community partners
- Experience of providing support, guidance or mentoring to learners, colleagues or students

Qualifications
- A good Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma/Masters in Dietetics
- Current Health and Care Professions Council (UK) registration as a Dietitian
- Significant professional experience in dietetic practice
Desirable
- Membership of the British Dietetic Association
- PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area
- Recognised Postgraduate teaching qualification/ Advance HE Fellowship accreditation or equivalent
- Basic Food Hygiene certificate
