Description
Sandwell College is looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational Lecturer in English to join our Adult Essential Skills for Work & Life team on a permanent, part-time basis including two evenings per week during term-time.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate English teacher who can engage and motivate adult learners, helping them develop their English skills, achieve their qualifications and progress towards their personal and professional goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive and inspiring English lessons
- Develop schemes of work, assessments and effective learning materials
- Use ILT and multimedia resources to enhance teaching and learning
- Support learners to achieve their targets and make positive progress
- Monitor attendance, retention, achievement and progression
- Assess and mark learners' work, providing constructive and timely feedback
- Administer and invigilate examinations in accordance with awarding body and JCQ requirements
- Contribute to curriculum development, standardisation and quality improvement
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, external agencies, college partners and local businesses
- Maintain accurate academic and administrative records
- Contribute to the development and expansion of English language provision

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A relevant degree, or substantial equivalent experience, in English Language
- A Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification
- Experience delivering and assessing Functional Skills and GCSE English, ideally within the Further Education sector
- Experience of raising English language achievement with diverse learners
- Experience developing and evaluating effective teaching and learning materials
- The ability to use ILT effectively in teaching and learning
- Willing to meet the requirement to work two evenings per week during term time
Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding
To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£32,538 - £49,220) you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:
Accepted Qualifications:
- DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- Certificate in Education
- PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
- ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
- DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
- DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:
- PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
- SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
- Masters in Education
- TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
