We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Film (Sound Design) to join our outstanding team of educators, practitioners and researchers.
About the Role
The Farnham School of Creative and Cultural Industries is a vibrant community of students, academic teaching staff, researchers and industry specialists, working together to create innovative film, media and creative technologies practice and research. Central to the School's ethos is the combination of high-quality teaching, leading research and vibrant knowledge exchange with industry partners. Film at UCA has an established reputation for practice-based education, combining creative experimentation with industry engagement to prepare graduates for careers across film, television and the wider screen industries. Students benefit from industry-standard production facilities, professional equipment and opportunities to collaborate across disciplines including animation, acting, games and TV production.
The role will be based at the Farnham campus, in Surrey, and will report directly to the Programme Director for Film.
Key Responsibilities
UCA is seeking to recruit a dynamic and innovative educator with specialist expertise in film sound. We are looking for a candidate who will ideally have significant professional experience within the film or television industries together with experience of teaching in higher education, including curriculum development aligned with contemporary professional practice.
As Lecturer in Film (Sound Design), you will have proven knowledge and experience in sound recording, sound design and production audio workflows. You will be confident teaching both the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking, supporting students in developing professional production skills alongside a strong understanding of cinematic language. Experience of current digital production technologies, contemporary workflows and collaborative production practice is essential.

You will play a key role in delivering teaching across the BA (Hons) Film Production and MA Filmmaking programmes, while also contributing to related courses across the School where appropriate. Alongside teaching, you will coordinate elements of the sound curriculum, supporting sessional staff, organising workshops, study visits and specialist learning activities, coordinating assessment, and helping students develop the professional knowledge, confidence and technical expertise required for careers in the screen industries.
Qualifications and Experience
You will have a good honours degree, ideally supported by a postgraduate qualification, together with significant professional experience and an up-to-date understanding of contemporary developments in filmmaking, sound design and the wider creative industries.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent team-working, organisational and communication skills. Teaching responsibilities will include all associated course administration, assessment and student support, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute proactively to curriculum enhancement and innovative approaches to learning and teaching. You will participate in student recruitment, curriculum development, quality assurance and academic administration, while also contributing to research, professional practice and knowledge exchange that enhances both the student experience and the wider academic community.

Salary
The actual salary for this part time role is £16,425 per annum.
