This role could possibly be based at Ammanford or Graig Campus.

Join our dedicated team supporting learners across ILS and Foundation Learning at Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and learner-focused individual who is committed to providing an outstanding learning and support experience.

Working within a supportive and inclusive environment, you will help learners develop their skills, confidence and independence, while contributing to their wider college experience through tutorial and extra-curricular opportunities.

Most Entry and Foundation programmes are based at our Ammanford Campus, with some provision currently delivered at Graig Campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake the delivery of teaching and engage learners within a non-accredited programme based on the RARPA approach. Identify and address learners’ individual needs across the key programme pillars, including employability, health and wellbeing, community inclusion, independent living, and communication and literacy;
  • The programmes within the curriculum areas also incorporates communication, numeracy and digital awareness development, while promoting learners’ confidence, skills and independence through structured weekly programme of activities and learning opportunities;
  • Provide opportunities which will enhance and enrich the learner experience as well as promoting independent living skills and raise aspirations for Entry learners;
  • Be responsible for the delivery and assessment of learners needs and requirements to engage fully in their studies;
  • Be responsible for the setting and monitoring of the progress of person-centered targets and delivery and assessment of a range of activities on Entry Level programmes;
  • Be a personal tutor for a group of Entry Level students supporting the course lead within delivery;
  • Develop resources in which can support and enhance the above delivery;
  • Be involved in all aspects of the faculty’s quality control systems including the monitoring and tracking of individual targets. internal verification and cross marking of assessed work and management of data;
  • Contribute to further curriculum developments within the Entry Level and Foundation learning programmes.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Welsh Language Requirements:

  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1 Desirable
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1 Desirable

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
  • Level 5 - 7 qualification in SEN
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development in Person Centered Practice
  • Level 1 BSL
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Experience and understanding of learners with ALN and challenging behaviour
  • Knowledge of non-accredited teaching programmes
  • Knowledge and understanding of the new ALN reforms
  • Ability to work effectively with learners with ALN, including autism and emotional and behaviour difficulties
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
  • Sound understanding of digital literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly

Desirable Criteria:

  • A good understanding of post 16 education
  • A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
