Applications are invited for this Grade 7 post, to start in February 2027 or at a mutually agreed alternative date before September 2027. We are looking for mathematicians of outstanding ability who will contribute to the continued development of the Pure Mathematics Group and to the life of the Department of Mathematics. Applicants are sought in Pure Mathematics, with particular focus in Analysis and Dynamical Systems.

Candidates should provide a full academic CV, to which they should append: (i) a research statement outlining their research record and future plans (up to 2 pages); (ii) a teaching statement outlining their teaching experience, approach and philosophy (up to 2 pages); and (iii) a statement outlining their commitment to non-discriminatory conduct and their contributions to creating inclusive environments (up to 1 page).
Candidates should make sure to explain how they meet the essential and desirable criteria outlined in the person specification for the post. This information should be provided in the Supporting Information section of Jobtrain by listing each criterion as a paragraph heading and then explaining underneath how that criterion is met.
You will be responsible for:
- Undertaking high-quality research, in collaboration with colleagues in the University and other institutions as appropriate, and publishing the results in world-leading journals, books or other appropriate outlets
- Seeking grants and funding to support their research from relevant bodies
- Seeking to attract and supervise postgraduate research students and research assistants, associates and fellows
- Actively contributing to delivering and enhancing the teaching programmes of Department of Mathematics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Contributing to the research life of the Department of Mathematics by participating in and organising research events and activities

About You
We encourage applications from individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. You should demonstrate:
Essential Criteria
- A PhD or equivalent research experience in mathematics or a closely related discipline
- Sufficient knowledge to develop and deliver lecture courses as part of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in pure mathematics
- A strong record (commensurate with career stage) of original research in pure mathematics, in at least one of the following areas: Analysis and/or Dynamical Systems, evidenced by high-quality publications in internationally leading journals and appropriate esteem indicators, such as prizes and invitations to participate in research activities
- Evidence of potential for excellent teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- The skills to communicate effectively with staff, students and external collaborators
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of supporting staff and students from a wide range of demographic and cultural backgrounds
- A track record of excellent teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
- Evidence of a record of development in the content, delivery or assessment of the curriculum
- Experience of knowledge transfer via interaction with industry or public engagement
