Description
Coleg Sir Gâr is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and dedicated Welding and Fabrication Lecturer to join our dynamic and growing Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to shape the future of engineering education by delivering high-quality teaching, practical workshop instruction, and academic support across our Further Education programmes (Levels 1–3).
Whether you are an established lecturer or an industry specialist looking to step into education, you will bring a strong practical background in MMA, MIG, TIG, and Fabrication processes, paired with a passion for inspiring the next generation of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, high-quality practical and theoretical teaching across Level 1–3 Welding and Fabrication courses.
- Develop curriculum materials, course content, and practical assignments aligned with current industry standards.
- Support individual learner achievement, progress tracking, and progression into industry or higher education.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues, local employers, and industry partners to ensure programmes remain cutting-edge.
- Maintain high standards of workshop health and safety, equipment maintenance, and safe working practices.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential Criteria:
- Advanced Craft Certificate/Diploma in Welding and/or Fabrication discipline or a closely related field
- Apprenticeship in Welding and/or Fabrication
- PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent recognised teaching qualification. (Candidates without this qualification must obtain a PGCE within 2 years of the employment date, during which the Associate Lecturer Scale will apply).
- GCSE English and Maths at a minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
- Proven experience teaching MMA, MIG, TIG welding techniques and/or Fabrication
- High level of competence in using Industrial Machinery (e.g. Guillotines, Cutters, Croppers, Grinders, etc)
- Ability to safely supervise a group of learners in a workshop
- Ability to confidently teach a wide range of modules spanning theory, simulation, and practical
- Good communicator with diplomacy and tact
- Good interpersonal and organisational skills
- Ability to work harmoniously with students and colleagues
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly

Desirable Criteria:
- Relevant Assessor (A1/TAQA) or Verifier (V1) awards
- IOSH or NEBOSH Qualification
- Proven experience teaching successfully across levels 1-3
- Industrial experience within the Welding and/or Fabrication Sectors
- A thorough understanding of current relevant issues within Further Education
- Welsh Language Requirements:
- Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1 Desirable
- Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1 Desirable (See detailed language descriptions attached)
