Description

The Department of Performing Arts at Clemson University seeks an outstanding lecturer of Theatre/Directing to begin August 2027. This is a 9-month faculty position that will hold the academic rank of regular full-time Lecturer. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses in the Theatre emphasis area, as well as direct one mainstage production during each academic year.

The hired lecturer is expected to teach Stage Directing I, Stage Directing II, Theatre Appreciation and a course in a secondary area of related research or practice; examples include, but are not limited to, theatre history, musical theatre, devised theatre, etc. This position will operate under a 4/4 teaching load (4 courses one semester; 3 courses and 1 directing assignment in the next semester).

About Clemson Performing Arts

The Performing Arts degree at Clemson University is a nationally distinctive degree that integrates the technology, performance, production, theory, and history of the performing arts into a unified program of study that prepares students for careers in many aspects of the arts including theatre, music and audio technology. The Department of Performing Arts occupies the Robert Howell Brooks Center for the Performing Arts. The Brooks Center is an 87,000 square foot educational/performance building that includes classrooms, rehearsal halls, offices, and supporting spaces.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts
  • Teaching experience at the secondary or college level is preferred
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Conversant in theatre history and contemporary professional practices
  • Specialty area(s) preferred
  • Recent professional directing experience
  • Desire to stay current and relevant in area of practice
  • A commitment to student recruitment
