Our Travel and Tourism section at Uxbridge Campus offers a range of travel-related courses to our learners, with a focus on the airline/aviation and hospitality industries. Working with local employers at and around Heathrow airport, we successfully prepare learners for careers in the sector and/or higher education.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our friendly and successful team on a part-time basis (2 days per week), to teach on a range of Travel and Tourism courses to our students, predominantly 16-19 year olds, from Level 1 to Level 5.

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional who can demonstrate:

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification or a degree in a relevant subject area
  • Level 5 teaching qualification that is recognised within the Further Education sector, or be willing to achieve this with support of the College
  • Some teaching/training experience
  • Experience of working within the travel and tourism industry

The postholder will work 2 days per week; one of those days must be a Friday.

We are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.


Introduction

Our Travel and Tourism section offers a range of travel-related courses with a focus on the airline/aviation and hospitality industries. Working with local employers at and around Heathrow airport, we successfully prepare learners for careers in the sector and/or higher education. We offer excellent facilities such as a mock aircraft cabin and travel agent and source work experience placements for our learners.

As a Lecturer, you will be joining an outstanding team with a range of industry experience, committed to the success of our learners. We welcome applicants from a range of travel-related backgrounds, particularly aviation or hotels, and we will support you to develop your career in teaching, including fully funding the teacher training apprenticeship qualification, which is undertaken at the College.


Purpose of the role

The main purpose of the job is to ensure the retention and achievement of students through the delivery of good practice in teaching and learning. The Lecturer will teach, develop and improve programmes of study in subjects and courses relevant to the post-holder’s knowledge, qualifications and experience.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of Level 3 in a relevant subject area (degree highly desirable)
  • Full Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g. PGCE in FE or Secondary, DET or equivalent) or willingness and ability to work towards a teaching qualification, supported by the College
  • Maths and English at GCSE Grade C / 4 or equivalent or willing to achieve this

Knowledge and Experience

  • Teaching or training experience
  • Experience of working within the travel and tourism industry
  • Up to date knowledge of the relevant subject area

Other Skills

  • Ability to engage vocational learners and adapt teaching to meet a range of levels and needs of learners
  • Valid passport and willingness and ability to participate in future UK and overseas student trips (overseas trips are not currently offered, but may be offered in future)
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good classroom practice
  • Good IT skills
  • Ability to integrate Maths, English and ICT within the curriculum

The successful candidate will be subject to enhanced clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service and employment will be subject to references.
