Edinburgh Napier University’s award-winning School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI) hosts a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and plays an active part in the creative industries across Scotland.
Our award-winning course was ranked second in Scotland for Film Production and Photography in the Guardian University Guide 2026 and as part of our ongoing initiative to provide a comprehensive support service to the Screen & Performing Arts subject area, we are currently recruiting 2.5 Lecturers in Film and Television to join the team and assist in maintaining our position as one of the top institutions for creative industries in UK Higher Education, by delivering high-quality, student-centred teaching, research and practice.
The Roles
The positions in Film and Television will join and further enhance our existing team. These are practice-focused academic roles, that will give you the opportunity to combine teaching expertise with substantial professional experience and strong current connections within the film and/or television industries, particularly in scripted drama.
This will put you in an excellent position to draw directly on your professional practice, industry knowledge and networks to pass on valuable skills and experience to our students and support their development towards professional careers, while giving you the opportunity to use your high-level professional and teaching experience to contribute to and lead on the delivery and development of our well-established undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Film and Television.

We are therefore looking for applicants who can bring professional film and television practice directly into their teaching and contribute to the development of students as emerging creative practitioners. Building on the strengths of our current team, we are particularly interested in developing our teaching and expertise in the areas of:
- Television studio production, including multi-camera production
- Screenwriting
- Production design
- Location sound recording
While these represent areas of particular interest, they are not intended to define individual posts, and we also welcome applicants with broader practice-based professional and teaching experience across scripted drama in film and television. We will consider the overall balance of skills, experience and industry connections offered by applicants in determining how the appointments can best complement and further enhance our existing team.
What we will need from you
We would like to speak to individuals with professional expertise and current industry experience across film and television, alongside experience of teaching and practice-based academic work.
Further to this, the following criteria are essential:
- Relevant professional and/or academic experience equivalent to doctoral-level study in film and/or television.
- Evidence of relevant teaching experience in film and/or television.
- A commitment to sustained continuous professional and academic development.
- A commitment to maintaining and developing active links with the film and television industries.
- Current knowledge and understanding of relevant industry standards, practices and regulations, alongside an awareness of emerging developments within the sector.
- Collegiate in approach - we are looking for a colleague with the enthusiasm required to contribute to and lead on the teaching of practical film and television production in order to successfully develop the next generation of filmmakers and screen practitioners. You must be equally comfortable working independently as you are collaborating as part of our established film education team.

Additional information
- Salary: £46,049 - £58,225 per annum (depending on experience)
- Contract: 2 x Permanent, Full Time – 35 hrs/wk
- 1 x Permanent, Part Time – 17.5 hrs/wk (Please specify on your application which post you are applying for)
- Closing Date: 30th September 2026
- Interviews: Week commencing 26th October 2026
