About Us

We are Wilson Gunn, a leading firm of patent and trade mark attorneys with offices in Manchester, Birmingham, Chesterfield, Glasgow, Liverpool, and London. Our clients range from aspiring start-ups and SMEs through to multinational corporations and internationally renowned brands.

We are now looking for a ledger clerk to join the finance team in our head office in Manchester on a permanent, full-time basis, working 35 hours a week.

We offer a flexible and hybrid approach to working, enabling employees to balance office and home-based working. While there is flexibility around working patterns, this role requires regular attendance at our Manchester office, with a minimum on-site presence expected each week to support collaboration and the effective operation of the finance team.

The Role

You will provide a range of different functions to support the business. Whilst your day-to-day work will be limited to a subset of those functions, you are encouraged to become familiar with other functions so that you can provide cover for other members of the team. Focusing on completing tasks to a high standard within set deadlines, you will:

  • Ensure that our internal accounts are accurate and up to date
  • Provide general administrative support to the accounts function
  • Maintain intellectual property office deposit accounts
  • Maintain cashbooks, including posting receipts/payments to Sage and bank reconciliation
  • Maintain sales and purchase ledgers, including posting disbursements, sales invoices and overheads to Sage
  • Check disbursements entered on the practice management system
  • Process payments
  • Process monthly invoices
  • Assist with credit control

About You

To join us, you will need:

  • At least one year’s experience in accounts (preferable)
  • Experience of Sage (preferable)
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • At a minimum, GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4-5/C or above in English and Maths
  • An outstanding eye for detail and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • The ability to use your initiative and work independently to assist the accounts team
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and use initiative
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
