Legacy Mentor – Adult Social Care
Team: Contracts and Compliance (CBG12) Job Family: Advising Salary: £45,326 – £50,436 per annum (pro rata) Hours: Full-time (37 per week) Contract Type: Hybrid – Fixed Term (until August 2028) / Secondment opportunity
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Adult Social Care professional to join Central Bedfordshire Council as a Legacy Mentor.
This unique, impactful opportunity is tailored for professionals in the later stages of their career, offering a chance to shape the next generation of Care Home Managers. Aligned with the NHS Legacy Mentor model, the role focuses on:
- Providing mentoring, coaching and practical guidance
- Supporting newly appointed managers in their early career stages
- Strengthening leadership across the sector
- Improving early-career retention and workforce development
- Contributing to high-quality care for residents across Central Bedfordshire
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one mentoring and coaching to newly appointed Care Home Managers and learners on placement
- Support early-career professionals in developing:
- Confidence
- Leadership skills
- Capability
- Share professional knowledge and experience to embed best practice
- Collaborate with colleagues, partners, and placement support staff to ensure a consistent, high-quality experience
- Offer advice and support on:
- Managing workload
- Confronting challenges
- Professional responsibilities
- Aid staff in pursuing relevant qualifications and development opportunities
- Promote wellbeing and provide pastoral support
- Play a role in improving retention, particularly within the first two years of management roles
- Champion the Legacy Mentor role and share good practice organisation-wide

Essential Requirements
- Experienced Adult Social Care professional, ideally with:
- A background in care home management or related leadership roles
- Passionate about supporting and developing others
- Strong communicator with skills to:
- Build positive, effective working relationships
- Empathetic, patient and approachable, with a commitment to improving outcomes for residents
- Ability to:
- Share knowledge with practical, real-world guidance
- Experience in – or willingness to develop – coaching and mentoring skills
- Comfortable working within a collaborative, system-wide approach
