Bhatia Best Solicitors is a well-established law firm based in the East Midlands, specialising in Criminal Defence, Family Law, Personal Injury, Public Law, and Community Care.
We are looking for an organised, proactive, and professional Legal Administrator to join our busy Criminal Defence department.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative and communication skills who is looking to develop their career within a legal environment. Previous experience within a law firm or legal setting would be advantageous, but is not essential, as training will be provided.
The Role
Working as part of our Criminal Defence team, you will provide essential administrative support to help ensure the smooth and efficient running of the department.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Processing Legal Aid applications and dealing with subsequent amendments
- Processing invoices in accordance with office procedures
- Managing online diaries, including recording court hearings, filing dates, and other important deadlines
- Ensuring hearings and meetings are appropriately flagged for allocation
- Chasing outstanding documentation and information
- Drafting basic court documents, correspondence, and standard letters
- Arranging and managing client appointments
- Liaising professionally with clients, courts, and other professionals in person, by telephone, and by email
- Opening and closing physical case files
- Taking accurate minutes of meetings
- Providing general administrative support to the Criminal Defence team as required

About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
- Is confident communicating with clients and professionals
- Has a professional and approachable telephone manner
- Can manage competing priorities and work effectively in a busy environment
- Is comfortable using IT systems and has good general administrative skills
- Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Understands the importance of discretion and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
- Has previous legal or office administration experience, although this is desirable rather than essential
Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm, with a one-hour lunch break from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
