Legal Advisor – Commercial Real Estate & Business Support

McArthurGlen Group, Europe’s leading owner, developer, and manager of designer outlets, was founded in 1993 and currently oversees 20+ designer outlets across 8 countries.
About the Role
We are seeking a **commercially minded Legal Advisor to collaborate with the Senior Legal Manager (UK & Canada) and deliver a high-performance in-house legal function across McArthurGlen’s designer outlets. As a trusted legal advisor, you will provide broad, commercially focused legal support across:
- Commercial real estate
- Contracts
- Construction & planning
- Debt recovery
- Dispute resolution
- ESG, marketing, and corporate governance matters
Working closely with Head Office and Centre teams, you will liaise with external advisors to ensure McArthurGlen’s decisions balance legal risk with commercial priorities while maintaining compliance. Deputising opportunities will also arise, including advice on leasing, meetings, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Commercial Real Estate Transactions
- Lead and manage commercial real estate transactions (primarily leasing and asset management)
- Instruct and oversee external solicitors, monitor progress, and report on key matters
2. Centre Legal Support (UK & Canada)
- Act as the principal legal contact for designated outlets, ensuring timely and effective legal support across all UK & Canada sites
3. Commercial Contracts
- Manage contracts for goods and services (e.g., facilities, marketing events)
- Lead complex contract negotiations and liaise with external counsel where required

4. Property & Development Projects
- Support property management and development teams on refurbishment and new build initiatives
- Handle construction contracts, appointments, and planning matters
5. ESG, Governance & Risk
- Support ESG strategy and corporate governance frameworks, including:
- Anti-bribery & corruption compliance
- Data protection
- Risk management
6. Debt Recovery & Dispute Resolution
- Drive cost-effective recovery of debts in the UK via insolvency or other dispute methods
- Ensure timely resolutions to maximise income for McArthurGlen and investors
7. Legal Operations & Team Support
- Assist the Senior Legal Manager in:
- Prioritising and allocating legal workload across UK & Canada
- Mentoring junior team members
- Developing training programmes and reporting structures

Qualifications & Experience
Core Requirements
✔ 3–6 years’ PQE with either in-house or private practice experience ✔ Autonomy & stakeholder responsibility—expectations to act independently and manage complex cross-functional relationships ✔ Desirable: Experience in commercial property leasing within retail, outlets, shopping centres, or mixed-use environments
Key Skills & Attributes
- Organisational acumen: Highly proactive, disciplined, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Communication & influence: Clear written & verbal skills; sharp attention to detail; strong relationship-building with internal/external partners
- Commercial & analytical thinking: Problem-solving, data-driven approach; ability to translate legal advice into practical commercial outcomes
- Negotiation & conflict resolution: Confident, adept at balancing risk vs. reward in deal-making
- Technical proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); IT-literate
