Our client’s Court of Protection team is responsible for managing the financial affairs of vulnerable individuals and those who lack mental capacity, whether they are living independently, in care homes, or in hospital settings. This work is carried out under the authority of the Court of Protection and through Powers of Attorney.
Due to continued growth, a full-time Legal and Finance Assistant is required to join this busy and interesting team at Northampton. With a varied client base, this role offers the opportunity to provide vital case management and financial administration support, helping ensure clients’ financial affairs are managed effectively and in accordance with legal requirements.
Responsibilities:
This is a varied and fast-paced role that includes:
- Providing accounting support to the team, with a particular focus on reconciling clients' bank accounts.
- Delivering essential case management support to the Court of Protection team.
- Assisting colleagues with the day-to-day management of their caseloads on a task-by-task basis.
- Preparing payment authorisations, reconciling bank statements, monitoring deputyship bank accounts, and liaising with financial institutions including the opening and closure of client bank accounts.
- Preparing files for detailed cost assessment and e-filing with The Senior Court Costs Office and responding to enquiries from cost lawyers.
- Preparing detailed file notes for all actions carried out on the file.
- Completing forms, applications, and other documentation as directed by case handlers.
- Handling enquiries from clients, their families, and care staff in a professional and compassionate manner.
- General administration tasks for the management and organisation of the individual case files.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will be highly organised, with a strong aptitude for finance, banking, and basic file management.
- You will be trustworthy, compassionate, patient, and understanding, with a genuine interest in the Court of Protection and Private Client sector, as well as an enthusiasm for working with vulnerable and elderly individuals and their families.
- Previous experience within the Court of Protection is preferred and some experience in dealing with finances is required.
- You must also be confident using your initiative within set guidelines; possess excellent organisational skills and demonstrate a commitment to developing a career in this area.
- Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to have a basic DBS check and an enhanced credit check.

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000
