Charltons Solicitors Limited is a long-established high street practice, providing high quality and practical legal advice to clients in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire since the 1950s.
The firm offers a friendly, local service supported by extensive experience and we are specialists in Private Client work.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for our office in Biddulph, we are also happy to discuss part-time hours for this role.
Due to growth we require an additional Legal Assistant to support our team with the preparation of wills, probate applications, and inheritance tax documentation, including drafting letters, forms, and basic legal documents. Day-to-day tasks include dictation work, managing client files, maintaining accurate records, scheduling appointments, and handling telephone and email inquiries in a professional manner. The role involves liaising with clients to gather information, arranging signing appointments, and assisting with the administration of estates, including collating financial information and communicating with financial institutions.

The Legal Assistant will also perform general administrative duties such as filing, photocopying, reception cover, and supporting other members of the team when required.

Qualifications
- Experience in a legal assistant, legal secretary, or similar role, ideally within wills, probate, or private client practice.
- Strong administrative capabilities, including document preparation, file management, and accurate data entry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive client matters with discretion and professionalism.
- Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook) and the ability to learn case management systems.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to drafting, reviewing, and checking documents and correspondence.
- Customer-focused mindset, with a calm and empathetic approach when dealing with clients in sometimes distressing circumstances.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small team and follow established procedures, while using initiative when appropriate.
- Previous experience in a high street law firm and knowledge of basic wills and probate processes are advantageous.
- Relevant legal or administrative qualifications (such as an NVQ, legal secretarial diploma, or similar) are beneficial but not essential.
