Are you organised, detail-oriented, and interested in a career in law or legal administration?

We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join our friendly and supportive Legal Services team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone seeking to develop a career in law/legal administration, whether you are a school or college leaver with relevant qualifications or an experienced administrator looking for a new challenge.

Working closely with solicitors and legal professionals, you will help provide high-quality legal support across a wide range of council services. You will gain valuable experience of legal processes, local government decision-making, and the administration of statutory functions.

The Role

As a Legal Assistant, You Will

  • Be a first point of contact for Legal Services clients
  • Provide administrative and legal support to solicitors and legal professionals
  • Prepare and process a variety of legal documentation, applications, notices, and orders
  • Assist with Freedom of Information requests and information governance matters
  • Maintain accurate records and case management systems
  • Draft routine correspondence and legal documentation using approved templates
  • Liaise with council departments, external organisations, and members of the public
  • Monitor deadlines and assist in progressing legal matters efficiently
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately and professionally

  • Tree Preservation Orders
  • Road Closure Applications
  • Public Footpath Diversions
  • Hedgerow Retention Applications
  • Charging Orders
  • Requests to deal with restrictions following historic Right to Buy acquisitions
  • Information law and Freedom of Information requests

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Pays close attention to detail and enjoys working accurately
  • Is comfortable using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Has a professional approach to handling confidential information
  • Is committed to delivering excellent customer service

For Grade 4 appointments, we welcome applications from candidates looking to start their career in law/legal administration and who can demonstrate transferable skills gained through education, work experience, volunteering, or other activities.
