Legal Counsel – Energy & Infrastructure

The Opportunity
We are supporting a major organisation operating at the forefront of the UK's energy transition and low-carbon infrastructure sector in the appointment of a Legal Counsel to its London-based team.
This is a broad and commercially focused legal position offering exposure to some of the UK's most significant infrastructure development activity. You'll work closely with senior legal and commercial stakeholders across complex projects involving energy infrastructure, engineering, construction, regulation, financing and commercial agreements.
This opportunity would particularly suit a lawyer who enjoys working at the intersection of major projects, energy and commercial law and wants to play an important role within a growing low-carbon business.
What You'll Be Doing
As Legal Counsel, you'll provide proactive and commercially focused legal support across a diverse range of matters connected with major energy and infrastructure projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing legal advice across the development and operation of major infrastructure projects.
- Supporting the business on commercial, regulatory and project-related matters.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts and legal documentation.
- Advising on engineering and construction agreements, including major project delivery contracts.
- Supporting negotiations involving contractors, project partners, government bodies and other third parties.
- Advising on real estate, planning and consenting matters associated with infrastructure development.
- Supporting legal work relating to project financing, investment and corporate transactions.
- Assisting with acquisition and divestment activity where required.
- Preparing and negotiating confidentiality, services, transfer and novation agreements.
- Supporting corporate governance and company secretarial activities.
- Assisting with dispute resolution matters, potentially including litigation, arbitration, mediation and expert determination.
- Working alongside external legal advisers and internal specialist teams where appropriate.
- Helping ensure the business continues to meet its legal, regulatory and internal compliance obligations.
- Supporting effective legal document and information management.

The original position has particularly broad exposure across commercial agreements, construction and engineering contracts, financing, acquisitions and divestments, regulatory matters and dispute resolution.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with commercially minded lawyers who can operate confidently within a complex project environment.
Ideally, you'll have:
- A Law degree or equivalent legal qualification.
- Qualification as a solicitor, barrister or equivalent.
- Experience working within one or more of the following areas:
- Energy
- Major infrastructure
- Engineering and construction
- Low-carbon or renewable energy projects
- Oil & gas
- Strong knowledge of commercial, regulatory, energy or environmental law.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
- Strong drafting and negotiation capabilities.
- The ability to analyse complex legal and commercial issues and provide practical advice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence working with stakeholders across legal, commercial, technical and project teams.
- An interest in the transition of traditional energy infrastructure towards lower-carbon technologies.
- Fluent English.
