Banking / Credit Lawyer

Major Financial Services Institution | London / Hybrid | 6-month contract

Accuflex is working with a major financial services institution to recruit an interim Banking / Credit Lawyer to support its private banking and wealth legal team.

This is a full-time 6-month contract, starting as soon as possible. The role is hybrid, with an expectation of around 3 days per week in the Canary Wharf office.

The successful candidate will support a broad range of transactional credit facility and loan lifecycle work across a private banking loan book. The work will include property lending, securities-backed lending and some specialist financing arrangements.

The role

The work will include:

  • Supporting credit facility transactions across a private banking loan book
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating loan and security documentation
  • Advising on property loans, mortgage-backed lending and secured lending arrangements
  • Supporting securities-backed / lending matters
  • Assisting with loan lifecycle work, including amendments, variations and facility management
  • Working with a range of borrower and security provider types, including individuals, companies, charities, overseas structures and wealth vehicles
  • Advising internal stakeholders on legal and documentation queries
  • Supporting policy, procedure and facility template work where required

The candidate

The client is looking for a credit lawyer with strong transactional experience who can work with light supervision.

Candidates should ideally have:

  • Qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales or equivalent common law jurisdiction
  • 3+ PQE
  • Good banking, finance, credit or secured lending experience
  • Experience with loans, mortgages, property finance or private banking credit work
  • Strong drafting and transaction management skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage matters with sensible legal judgement
  • A practical and commercial approach
  • Good stakeholder management skills

Useful experience

The following would be helpful but is not essential:

  • Private banking or wealth lending experience
  • Regulated mortgage contracts
  • Consumer credit exemptions
  • MCOB knowledge
  • Lombard / securities-backed lending
  • Property finance
  • Lending involving individuals, trusts, charities, overseas entities or wealth structures
  • Previous in-house or financial services legal team experience
