Job Description
JERAGM Legal is part of the JERAGM Legal, Compliance & Contracts team. The Legal Counsel will support the Team in all key legal matters affecting the company and for the design, implementation, maintenance and operation of legal processes for the company. Some assistance on regulatory / compliance matters may be required.

The Legal function is responsible for drafting and finalising legal documentation, advising and assessing legal risks as well as mitigating actions.
The legal team also provides advice and guidance to senior management on business issues and ensures that business is conducted in a manner that complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Provide technically accurate and commercially aware legal advice to the company.
- Ensure that risks are outlined for the business, to advise on the legal process as required.
- Anticipate issues and assess risks strategically; identify proactive solutions to mitigate risks and exposures.
- Support the negotiation and draft agreements covering LNG, coal, power trading, ISDAs / derivatives and freight transactions.
- Provide training to relevant employees in the following areas:
- Anti-bribery and corruption
- Competition law
- Anti-money laundering
- Sanctions

Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of the following is essential for this role:
- Physical contract transaction cycle, gained within an energy trading environment
- Energy trading contracts
- Good degree in law with 4 – 6 years PQE from a leading law firm or in-house experience.
- Qualified for legal practice.
- Commodities trading background required, LNG trading preferred.
- Good analytical and drafting skills, organized and committed to deadlines.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience, with keen ability to evaluate all legal implications with a focus on solutions and results.
- Compliance experience is a plus.
Person Specification
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels as well as external counterparty representatives.
- Must be well-organised, detail orientated and efficient.
- Self-motivated, with an ability to work under pressure and to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic corporate environment.
- Must possess a strong commercial outlook.
- Thrives in a fast-paced energy trading environment.
