Business and Legal Affairs Team

The Condé Nast Business and Legal Affairs team is led by the General Counsel based in our New York HQ and is comprised of colleagues in London, New York, China, Europe, Mexico, India, Japan and Taiwan.

About The Role

Reporting to the Senior Counsel, Commercial and Licensing, you will collaborate with and deliver advice to our commercial and consumer revenue teams, with a particular focus on media and digital advertising deals, events, custom and branded content and consumer regulatory compliance.

The purpose of the role is to support our revenue teams in delivering deals and resolving issues in a creative and commercial manner.


What You Will Do

  • Support the commercial teams by drafting, reviewing and negotiating revenue generating advertising and marketing contracts including for traditional and programmatic advertising, talent agreements, competitions and giveaways, non-disclosure agreements, sponsorships and events/activations.
  • Advise on legal queries and contractual compliance relating to revenue deals for media and digital advertising and custom content across digital, print, video, social and experiential.
  • Negotiate our standard terms with advertising clients and talent agencies.
  • Manage legal documentation for events including venue agreements, talent, sponsorship and barter arrangements.
  • Interpret and advise on Condé Nast’s Global Advertising Guidelines and their application to campaigns within the UK and the UAE.
  • Knowledge sharing with commercial teams and colleagues within the Business & Legal Affairs team including with presentations and training on advertising disclosures, the DMCC, CAP codes and ASA guidance, including requirements applicable to influencers.
  • Liaise and coordinate with colleagues handling production of branded content deals and events and develop workflows to maximise communication and efficiency.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legal and regulatory updates with a particular focus on consumer laws relating to advertising, marketing, AI and subscriptions.

Who You Are

  • Legally qualified in England & Wales with 2-4 years post qualification experience.
  • Strong experience in commercial contracts gained either in private practice or in an in-house role, preferably in the media sector. Experience with IP law is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, across US, UK and Middle East time zones.
  • Ability to present legal advice in a pragmatic, problem-solving and commercial fashion.
  • Confident, self-starter who welcomes the opportunity to develop strong relationships.
