Legal Counsel - Commercial, Marketing & IP

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Legal Counsel - Commercial, Marketing & IP based in United Kingdom.

This role combines intellectual property, marketing, regulatory coordination, and commercial contracting within a fast-moving global technology environment. You will help protect and strengthen a high-profile international brand while enabling business and marketing teams to move confidently into new markets. Approximately half of the role will focus on IP and marketing matters, including trademarks, campaigns, sponsorships, advertising, and brand protection. The remaining focus will be on drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements. Working closely with Marketing, Product, Regulatory, and external legal partners, you will provide practical, business-oriented advice across multiple jurisdictions. The role offers significant ownership, international exposure, and the opportunity to shape scalable legal processes in a rapidly evolving industry.

Accountabilities

  • Manage a global intellectual property portfolio covering trademarks, branding, graphics, and creative assets, including instructing and overseeing external counsel on registrations, renewals, enforcement, and related matters.
  • Advise marketing and commercial teams on campaigns, content, sponsorships, advertising, and brand-related initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate with regulatory specialists and external counsel on market-entry questions, including advertising restrictions, reverse solicitation, sponsorship structures, and requirements for entering new markets.
  • Translate complex legal and regulatory advice into clear, practical guidance that business stakeholders can confidently apply.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including sponsorship, advertising, media, vendor, revenue partnership, distribution, subscription, and strategic partnership agreements.
  • Partner closely with Regulatory, Product, Marketing, and other internal stakeholders to identify legal and commercial risks early and ensure matters are directed to the appropriate specialist when required.
  • Develop and maintain legal playbooks, templates, and practical guidance that enable business teams to self-serve on routine legal questions while maintaining appropriate risk controls.
  • Support brand-protection initiatives, including actions relating to trademark infringement, unauthorized use, and misuse of intellectual property.
  • Build strong relationships with external legal advisers and coordinate legal support across multiple jurisdictions and time zones.
  • Contribute to a commercially focused legal function by balancing risk management with business enablement and speed of execution.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Strong hands-on experience managing IP portfolios, particularly trademark registrations, brand protection, enforcement, and coordination of external counsel across jurisdictions.
  • Significant commercial contracting experience, including drafting and negotiating complex sponsorship, advertising, vendor, revenue partnership, subscription, distribution, partnership, and technology-related agreements.
  • Experience building effective stakeholder relationships and providing commercially practical legal advice to non-legal teams.

  • Experience working within a global or matrix organization across multiple time zones is preferred.
  • Familiarity with data protection considerations relevant to marketing, including consent, targeting, analytics, and related commercial arrangements, is beneficial.
