A market-leading multi-site retail business with an extensive national footprint is looking to appoint a Legal Counsel to join its established in-house legal team.
Reporting directly to the Head of Legal, this is a broad, high-visibility role offering immediate ownership of complex commercial contracts, corporate restructuring projects, and strategic operational initiatives across the group.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate high-value commercial agreements covering supply arrangements, strategic commercial partnerships, and major infrastructure rollouts.
- Advise on commercial contracts, franchise agreements, and operational matters across a large national estate.
- Support corporate transactions, internal group reorganisations, M&A activity, joint ventures, and subsidiary governance.
- Assist executive leadership with corporate governance, board reporting, and compliance frameworks.
- Provide day-to-day legal support across business units, advising on operational risk, regulatory developments, and commercial disputes.
- Instruct and oversee external legal counsel on specialist matters to ensure quality and value.

Candidate Profile
- Corporate lawyer and qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction) with circa 4 to 6 years’ PQE.
- Strong corporate pedigree gained within a top-tier City, international, or leading national law firm.
- Prior in-house experience (via direct employment or a client secondment), ideally within a fast-paced multi-site retail, consumer, or dynamic corporate environment.
- Proven track record leading commercial negotiations, managing corporate transactions, and advising on governance or reorganisations.
- Commercial mindset with strong stakeholder management skills.
