Legal Counsel – Insurance / Lloyd’s Market (2+PQE)

Permanent

London or Manchester | Hybrid Working

A leading global specialty insurer is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its growing legal team in either London or Manchester.

This role offers the opportunity to act as a trusted legal advisor to the business, supporting a wide range of legal matters across underwriting, product development, distribution, regulatory issues and strategic projects within the insurance business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising on (re)insurance law, including policy wordings, distribution and delegated authority agreements
  • Supporting commercial and product teams on governance processes and regulatory considerations for new products
  • Negotiating and drafting Lloyd’s and company market contracts and clauses across property, casualty and specialty lines
  • Providing legal support on contentious matters, investigations and non-claims litigation
  • Advising on regulatory and sanctions matters in collaboration with compliance teams
  • Supporting international distribution channels, including Lloyd’s Europe and global offices
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial and corporate contracts, including intra-group and third-party agreements
  • Delivering legal training, templates and guidance across the business
  • Assisting with strategic projects and initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and legal processes

  • England & Wales or Common law qualified lawyer with experience in insurance law
  • Must have private practice (insurance) or in-house experience
  • Strong knowledge of the UK insurance industry and the Lloyd’s market
  • Experience with policy wordings, insurance regulatory issues and commercial contracts
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercially minded and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
