Job title: Legal Counsel
Reporting to: Senior Legal Counsel or Head of Legal
Based in: Wilton, Teesside
Renumeration: Market leading basic salary with a very exciting benefits package that includes an elevated pension, annual bonus 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays and a number of insurance and income protection schemes.

This is an opportunity to join Sembcorp UK's Legal & Compliance team at one of the most exciting periods in the company's growth.
Sembcorp is at the heart of the UK's energy transition, supporting critical energy and industrial infrastructure whilst helping enable the industries that will shape the UK's future growth. From low-carbon energy solutions and major industrial developments to emerging digital infrastructure opportunities at Wilton International, our Legal & Compliance team sits at the centre of some of the most important projects in the business.
As Legal Counsel, you will work across the full range of legal and compliance matters affecting the UK business. This is a broad, hands-on role for someone who enjoys variety, wants to work closely with the business and is keen to make a genuine contribution from day one.

You'll work closely with colleagues across the UK business whilst being part of an international Legal & Compliance network across the Sembcorp Group. This combination offers the opportunity to take ownership of matters locally while benefiting from the support and expertise of a global legal function.
This is a chance to work on matters that matter: helping deliver infrastructure critical to the UK's energy transition, supporting industrial growth and contributing to projects that will help shape the future of the Wilton site, Teesside and the wider UK economy.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Advise the business on a broad range of legal matters across commercial contracts, compliance, real estate, corporate transactions and construction.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and other legal documentation.
- Support renewable energy and infrastructure project development and operations.
- Provide practical advice on compliance, governance and internal policies.
- Help identify and manage legal risks, disputes and claims when they arise.
- Support contract management, legal process improvement initiatives and data protection.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues, external stakeholders and professional advisers.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments and communicate business impacts.

Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified solicitor with strong technical legal skills.
- Experience advising on commercial contracts.
- Willingness to work across multiple legal disciplines including compliance, real estate, corporate and construction matters.
- Commercially minded with an interest in understanding how businesses operate.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Able to explain legal issues clearly and pragmatically.
- Organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities.
- Interest in compliance and governance matters.
Prior in-house experience is welcome but not essential. Above all, we are looking for someone who is curious, commercially minded, eager to learn and excited by the opportunity to build broad in-house experience whilst making a meaningful contribution at a defining moment for Sembcorp in the UK.
