Purpose
We are seeking an experienced retail financial services lawyer to join as permanent member of the M&G Legal team, focusing on advising our Individual Life & Pensions business.
The role will support the development, distribution and ongoing management of retail savings and investment propositions to enable business growth and ensure good customer outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide timely, clear and commercially pragmatic legal advice on matters relating to:
- retail savings and investment products
- product structuring and design
- customer communications and financial promotions
- Interpret and apply relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, translating these into practical guidance for the business
- Support the business in identifying and managing legal, regulatory and conduct risks
- Advise on the development and implementation of new and existing products and propositions, including changes to features, distribution and servicing models
- Provide legal input into product lifecycle management, including remediation activity where required
- Draft, review and advise on:
- policy terms and conditions
- customer communications
- marketing materials and financial promotions

Skills and experience
Technical expertise
- Qualified solicitor (England & Wales or equivalent) with at least 4 years of relevant PQE (Essential)
- Experience of advising within one of the following sectors (Essential):
- Life insurance and/or
- Pensions and/or
- Asset/wealth management and/or
- Retail financial services
- Working knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to retail savings and investment products.
Commercial and analytical capability
- Strong ability to apply legal principles pragmatically in a commercial context
- Sound judgement and ability to balance legal risk with business objectives
- Ability to manage complex issues and provide clear recommendations
Stakeholder management
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to influence and engage effectively with senior stakeholders
- Collaborative approach, with the ability to work across functions
Personal attributes
- Proactive, solutions-oriented approach
- High levels of integrity and professional judgement
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality output to deadlines
