Legal Counsel | Renewable Energy
North East England
A growing renewable energy business backed by one of the world’s leading investment firms is looking to appoint a Legal Counsel to join its expanding team.
The business has ambitious growth plans and a growing portfolio of renewable energy projects across onshore wind, solar and battery storage.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you'll join a small, close-knit legal team, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of a broad range of legal matters and work closely with senior stakeholders across the business.
You'll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from development and construction through to operations, acquisitions and disposals. This is a hands-on, commercially focused role where your advice will have a direct impact on project delivery and wider business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial and construction contracts, including EPC, O&M, supply and service agreements.
- Providing legal support across project development, construction, procurement, finance, property and M&A transactions.
- Working closely with internal stakeholders to manage contractual risks, support negotiations and find practical solutions to commercial challenges.
- Advising on contract management, variations, disputes and contractual performance issues.
- Supporting corporate governance, regulatory compliance and the development of internal legal processes.
- Managing external legal advisers and ensuring the business receives effective, commercially focused advice.

What They're Looking For
- A qualified solicitor in England and Wales or Scotland, with 5+ years' PQE.
- Previous in-house legal experience within a comparable business.
- Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation experience.
- A commercially minded approach, with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives.
- Someone proactive, collaborative and comfortable working across multiple projects in a growing business.

Experience within construction, engineering, infrastructure or renewable energy would be advantageous, particularly exposure to complex construction contracts such as NEC or FIDIC.
