Legal Counsel - Pensions
SSQ Legal Search is partnering with a prominent organisation in the pensions sector to appoint a Legal Counsel. This is a broad, high-visibility in-house role with direct exposure to the Board and senior leadership.
The Role
- Advise the Board, Executive Committee and senior management on legal matters across the organisation's operations
- Bring pensions expertise to a cross-functional legal team, with scope to broaden into other practice areas
- Partner with internal client teams to deliver pragmatic, commercially focused advice
- Identify and mitigate legal risk and strengthen governance processes
- Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, Board papers and policy documentation
- Monitor legislative developments and build relationships with government, regulatory and industry stakeholders

The Requirements
- Qualified lawyer (UK or overseas equivalent)
- Post-qualification experience advising on non-contentious defined benefit pensions
- Strong ability to interpret complex legislation and communicate clearly at all levels
- Appetite to upskill beyond pensions. Exposure to commercial, investment, litigation, regulatory or insolvency work is an advantage
