The Role
An established specialty insurance organisation is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join its UK legal team. This role will work in close partnership with underwriting teams, providing practical, commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of specialty insurance products and distribution arrangements.
This role will be a trusted adviser to underwriters, supporting product development, policy wording negotiations, delegated authority arrangements, claims-related legal issues, and regulatory matters.
The role requires an individual who understands the pace and commercial realities of underwriting and can deliver clear, solution-oriented advice that enables the business to achieve its objectives while effectively managing legal and regulatory risk.
What you’ll do
- Act as a legal partner for underwriting teams across multiple specialty lines of business.
- Provide day-to-day legal support on underwriting decisions, product development, policy wordings, endorsements, and coverage-related issues.
- Advise underwriters on legal, regulatory, and conduct risks associated with new and existing products.
- Draft, review, and negotiate delegated authority, distribution, binding authority, and other insurance-related agreements.
- Support underwriting governance processes and ensure legal compliance across the product lifecycle.
- Work collaboratively with underwriting, claims, compliance, risk, and operational teams to provide integrated legal solutions.
- Deliver training and guidance to underwriters on legal developments, regulatory changes, and market trends affecting the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
