Come and join our Legal-team based in our Reading Office with your commitment as a Legal Director, Employment (People Manager – EMEA & APJ)

You will be responsible to manage our EMEA and APJ Employment legal team. As a guideline, we are looking for someone with 10+ years’ PQE with previous in-house experience in a European role.

Your Impact

Reporting to the VP & GC, Legal HR, Litigation, Ethics & Compliance, as Legal Director, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal support across the spectrum of employment law for our operations in EMEA and APJ, including management of our team of EMEA and APJ employment lawyers. With a focus on international HR/employment matters, you will contribute to shaping a positive and legally compliant work environment for our employees globally.

What the Role Offers:

  • Challenging Responsibilities: Take charge of employment litigation, pre-litigation disputes, and advising on international HR matters.
  • People Manager: Manage a small team of exceptional in-house employment lawyers across EMEA and APJ.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with OpenText's local HR teams, external legal counsel, and multiple works councils/employee representative bodies across various European countries.
  • Global Impact: Support corporate initiatives, such as cross-border mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and divestitures, requiring international employment law expertise.
  • Professional Growth: Thrive in a challenging and rewarding environment, undertake diverse projects, and contribute to a dynamic legal team.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, eager to explore new areas, and capable of undertaking projects in diverse fields.
  • Management Experience: History of managing a team of employment/litigation lawyers across EMEA and APJ.
  • Analytical Skills: Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Client Orientation: Business-minded lawyer with a pragmatic, solution-driven sensibility, and sound judgment.
  • Legal Knowledge: Prior experience and knowledge in international individual and collective employment laws would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and strong academic credentials.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English; other European language skills would be a plus.
