Legal and Corporate Affairs - Transformation Expert

Location: London - Hybrid (ad hoc - mostly remote)
Duration: 31/12/2026
Pay Rate: Market rate (PAYE through Umbrella)


Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Legal and Governance SME to support a strategic design and transformation initiative over a 3-month engagement. The role requires a strong Legal, Governance, Risk, and Compliance professional capable of supporting operating model design, governance frameworks, process transformation, stakeholder engagement, and strategic advisory activities across legal and governance functions.

The SME will work closely with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to help assess current-state challenges, define target operating models, support transformation activities, and provide expertise across legal operations, governance, risk, controls, and compliance-related topics.

This role is suited for a hands-on and pragmatic professional with strong communication skills, transformation experience, and the ability to operate in complex and evolving environments.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Transformation Support

  • Support the design and transformation of Legal and Governance operating models, processes, and organizational structures.
  • Contribute to governance frameworks, roles & responsibilities definition, and control environments.
  • Assist in identifying operational improvement opportunities across legal, governance, compliance, and risk activities.
  • Support development of transformation roadmaps, recommendations, and implementation approaches.

Governance & Risk Advisory

  • Provide subject matter expertise across governance, legal operations, risk, compliance, audit, and controls environments.
  • Support assessment of governance maturity, risks, and operational gaps.
  • Contribute to the definition of governance structures, reporting mechanisms, escalation models, and oversight processes.
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and internal compliance standards.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with senior business stakeholders, legal teams, governance leads, and transformation teams.
  • Facilitate workshops, working sessions, and discussions to gather requirements and align on priorities.
  • Prepare executive-level materials, summaries, recommendations, and transformation outputs.

Operational & Process Improvement

  • Support process review and optimization initiatives across legal and governance functions.
  • Identify opportunities for standardization, simplification, automation, and efficiency improvement.
  • Contribute to documentation of processes, controls, governance models, and operating procedures.

Transformation & Change Enablement

  • Support transformation activities and help drive execution against agreed objectives and timelines.
  • Assist with change management activities and stakeholder alignment throughout the engagement.
  • Provide practical and actionable recommendations grounded in industry best practices.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Legal Operations, Governance, Risk, Compliance, Audit, and Controls environments.
  • Experience supporting Legal, Compliance/Risk transformation, operating model design, or governance improvement initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced and complex environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience preparing executive-level presentations, recommendations, and workshop materials.
  • Collaborative mindset with ability to work across cross-functional and international teams.

Qualifications & Experience

  • +10 years of relevant professional experience in Legal, Governance, Risk, Compliance, Audit, Legal Operations, or related transformation roles.
  • Experience supporting legal transformation programs is strongly preferred.
  • Degree in Law, Business Administration, Governance, Risk Management, or related field.
  • Experience in regulated industries is a plus.
  • Familiarity with legal technology, governance frameworks, or process transformation methodologies is beneficial.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Fluent English required; additional languages are a plus.
