Our client, a well-established and growing law firm, is investing significantly in its Risk and Compliance function and is looking to appoint a Legal Officer to join the team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone earlier in their compliance career to develop into a subject matter expert, with genuine scope for progression towards a senior legal officer role as you grow into the position.
The Role
You'll join the General Legal / Risk & Compliance team, supporting the wider function in identifying, assessing, prioritising and managing risk and compliance across the business. The role covers a broad and varied remit, including:
- Supporting the drafting, review and updating of policy documents and guidance notes
- Providing colleagues across the business with practical advice on policy and procedure implementation
- Recording, monitoring and reporting risks, and helping identify mitigating actions
- Supporting the delivery of mandatory and refresher compliance training
- Financial crime and sanctions support, including monitoring sanctions designations and assisting with related third-party tools
- Contract review and drafting support, and client/supplier due diligence
- Data protection support, including subject access requests and impact assessments
- Supporting new client onboarding, including checking and verifying client acceptance forms
- Assisting with claims, complaints, and insurance-related reporting
- Horizon-scanning for regulatory and legislative change and helping implement resulting process updates

- A collaborative approach, comfortable supporting colleagues and building a strong network across the business
- The ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Self-motivation and the initiative to identify and progress your own work
- Adaptability, and comfort with a role that will evolve as the function grows
- Willingness to travel to other offices occasionally, with overnight stays where required

A law degree or legal qualification is preferred but not essential, as is prior compliance experience, this is a role well suited to someone looking to build a career in legal risk and compliance.
