The role
As Legal Officer, you will provide timely, accurate and high-quality legal advice on litigation, public law matters, inquests and public inquiries. You will work alongside experienced legal professionals, supporting the organisation in managing legal risk and responding to complex challenges.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Advising on litigation matters and wider public law issues.
- Supporting responses to inquests and public inquiries.
- Managing litigation matters, including judicial reviews and other legal challenges.
- Instructing and working alongside external counsel where required.
- Providing practical legal advice to senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Identifying legal risks and supporting strategies to mitigate them.
- Liaising with government departments and external stakeholders on legal matters.
- Supporting a broader range of legal work across advisory and regulatory functions as business needs require.

To succeed:
You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and possess strong legal analysis and stakeholder management skills. Ideally NQ-3PQE (guidelines only).
The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate:
- Experience handling litigation, disputes or public law matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to analyse evidence and apply sound legal judgement.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the confidence to advise stakeholders at all levels.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
- A collaborative and solutions-focused approach to legal problem-solving.
