Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive, commercially aware, and detail-oriented Legal & Recovery Claims Handler to support the management and recovery of outlays relating to Road Traffic Collisions (RTC) claims on behalf of CDG UK & I Bus & Coach.
The successful candidate will manage a substantial caseload of pre-litigated and litigated recovery matters, pursuing recoveries efficiently while minimising financial exposure to the business. The role will involve handling claims from inception through to settlement or trial, including preparing legal documentation, issuing proceedings, negotiating settlements, and defending claims where appropriate.
The role is ideal for a candidate with experience in motor claims, insurance recoveries, civil litigation, or legal case handling who is confident working independently within a fast-paced legal and claims environment.
Main Responsibilities
- Deputise for the Legal Recoveries Litigation Executive during periods of absence, ensuring operational continuity and team support.
- Actively pursue recovery claims.
- Handle a high-volume caseload of litigated and pre-litigated recovery files from inception through to settlement or trial.
- Review liability, quantum, and evidential documentation including CCTV footage, telematics, accident reports, witness statements, engineer reports, medical evidence, and police documentation.
- Place insurers, third parties, and legal representatives on notice, serving Section 152 Notices where appropriate.
- Prepare and issue County Court proceedings and manage claims through the litigation process.
- Defend litigated claims in-house where appropriate, ensuring compliance with court directions and procedural requirements.
- Draft legal documents.
- Liaise with insurers, panel solicitors, operational departments, third-party representatives, and external stakeholders regarding claim progression and litigation strategy.
- Negotiate settlements to achieve commercially favourable outcomes.
- Monitor court deadlines, limitation dates, and procedural compliance in accordance with the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on the case management system.
- Produce regular reports and updates on recovery performance and litigated matters.
- Ensure all matters are handled in accordance with company procedures, legal regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the legal and recoveries function.

Essential Criteria
- Legal Background: A formal legal qualification is highly desirable (e.g. CILEX, Paralegal, LLB, or LPC/SQE) or possess extensive legal experience within civil litigation or insurance recovery.
- Previous experience handling RTC claims, insurance recoveries, civil litigation, or motor claims litigation.
- Strong understanding of Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and the litigation process.
- Experience managing a high-volume caseload independently.
- Experience drafting legal and court documentation.
- Knowledge of liability disputes, quantum assessment, and recovery strategies.
