Legal Secretary – Probate

Location: Poole, Dorset
Salary: £26,000–£27,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

TeamJobs is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Legal Secretary to join a well-established and highly regarded law firm within their Probate Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional, organised, and proactive individual who enjoys working in a client-focused environment and providing high-quality support to fee earners.

The Role

As a Legal Secretary, you will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to solicitors dealing with probate, estate administration, wills, and lasting powers of attorney. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the department while delivering an exceptional service to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Audio and copy typing of correspondence, legal documents, and reports.
  • Preparing probate applications and supporting documentation.
  • Opening and closing client files in line with firm procedures.
  • Managing diaries, arranging appointments, and coordinating meetings.
  • Handling telephone enquiries and liaising with clients, beneficiaries, and third parties.
  • Preparing bills and assisting with the administration of client matters.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Managing incoming and outgoing post and emails.
  • Providing general administrative support to the Probate team.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential

  • Previous experience as a Legal Secretary, ideally within a Probate or Private Client department.
  • Excellent typing and IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A professional and confidential approach when handling sensitive information.

Desirable

  • Experience using legal case management systems.
  • Knowledge of probate procedures and estate administration.
  • Previous experience working within a solicitors' practice.
