What are we looking for?
We are looking to recruit a skilled Legal Secretary with around two or more years of experience in a comparable secretarial position.
Where will you be based?
This role will be based from our Gosforth office, but we would expect you to travel and work from other offices from time to time.
How many hours will you be working?
This is a full-time role which is 35 hours per week, however at EMG Solicitors we work flexibly, it’s not a 9 to 5 role, but we do expect the work to be done, when you do it can be largely up to yourself, your Team Leader and the requirements of your clients.
A brief overview of the role:
This role works within the Wills, Trusts and Probate team. We actively support one another and place a great deal of emphasis on teamwork. The main purpose of the role will be to provide an efficient and effective legal secretarial support to the Wills, Trusts & Probate department in our offices in Gosforth, Durham, and Penrith.

Getting paid for the work you do.
As a Legal Secretary within our Wills, Trusts, and Probate team, you will play an important role in ensuring the department runs efficiently and effectively. Your contribution will support the team’s success and help deliver an excellent service to our clients. This will include:
- Provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to the WTP fee earners.
- Prepare and process audio and copy typing for the WTP team, including correspondence, legal documents, and forms.
- Manage and process client-related expense claims (obtained regularly from fee earners) and personal expense claims for members of the WTP team.
- Coordinate and schedule client appointments, including arranging meeting rooms and ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared.
- Maintain effective administration of all WTP files, ensuring they are kept up to date and well organised.
- Handle client enquiries professionally, taking accurate messages and providing updates on file progress where appropriate.
- Support general firm administration, including preparing and posting chitties, maintaining internal registers, and overseeing the secure storage and retrieval of deeds and documents.

To be able to perform this job you will need.
- A good standard of education, along with around 2–3 years’ experience in a legal secretarial role.
- The ability to carry out your duties professionally, with accuracy, care, and a strong focus on client service.
- A commitment to following firm procedures and maintaining client confidentiality at all times.
- To be self-motivated and able to show initiative in managing your workload and supporting the team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with both clients and colleagues.
- Ideally, previous experience working within a Wills, Trusts, and Probate team.
- The confidence to raise any significant issues or concerns about client files with the team leader.
- A willingness to attend and complete any relevant training required by the firm.
