Clinical Negligence Legal Secretary role - Secretary role in Family law also available

We're working with a leading law firm who are looking to recruit a Legal Secretary to join their specialist Clinical Negligence team in Exeter. The team acts for clients across the UK on a wide range of medical negligence claims, including complex and high-value birth injury cases.

This is a varied role providing secretarial and administrative support to experienced Clinical Negligence lawyers. The role would suit someone with previous legal secretarial experience, although candidates with strong administrative experience and an interest in developing within a legal environment may also be considered.

Responsibilities include:

  • Opening, closing and archiving client files.
  • Audio and copy-typing, proofreading and updating dictated work.
  • Dealing with client enquiries by telephone and email.
  • Preparing and producing legal documents.
  • Providing general secretarial and administrative support to the Clinical Negligence team.
  • Managing diaries and arranging conferences with experts and counsel.
  • Arranging meetings, appointments and bookings.
  • Retrieving and storing documents, including deeds and other important records.
  • Arranging bank transfers at the request of the fee-earning team.
  • Preparing account receipts, payments and bills.
  • Maintaining accurate records.
  • Fielding initial enquiries from prospective new clients.

What we need from you:

  • Previous legal secretarial or legal administrative experience would be desirable.
  • Good audio and copy-typing skills.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
  • Clear and professional communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Calm and sympathetic approach when dealing with clients and their families.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office.
  • Flexible approach to changing priorities and workloads.
