Role Description

The Legal Secretary/Assistant role is an on-site position based in Carlisle. The role involves preparing, formatting, and managing legal documents and correspondence, maintaining client files, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. Daily tasks include handling telephone and email enquiries, scheduling appointments, managing diaries for solicitors, and organising meetings. The Legal Secretary/Assistant will support fee earners with administrative tasks, file management, and document production, while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with firm policies and legal regulations. The position requires working closely with other team members to support smooth office operations and responsive client service.

  • Solid understanding of Law and ability to support Legal Assistants and solicitors in a legal practice environment.
  • Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation, including drafting, formatting, and proofreading legal correspondence and forms.
  • Strong Clerical Skills, including filing, data entry, record management, and general office administration.
  • Effective Diary Management skills, including scheduling appointments, organizing meetings, and coordinating court and client dates.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Competence in using office software (e.g., word processing, email, case management systems) and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workloads, and work reliably in a busy on-site office setting.
  • Previous experience in a legal or professional services environment and relevant secretarial or administrative qualifications are beneficial.
