About the Role
AJ Chambers are working with a top City Law Firm who are looking for a proactive and organised Practice Support Assistant to join the team to provide high-quality administrative and file management support to lawyers and wider support teams.
This is a varied role where you’ll play an important part in keeping the team running smoothly — from managing documents and files to supporting diaries, events, client engagement and financial administration.
You’ll work closely with the Service Lead, Practice Assistants, Executive Assistants and Lawyers, helping to manage priorities, meet deadlines and deliver a consistently high standard of service. We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, communicates well and enjoys being part of a collaborative team. You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, seek guidance when needed and look for ways to make processes more efficient.
What you’ll be doing
Practice & Client Support
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to lawyers and the wider Practice Support team.
- Organise your workload effectively, managing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Communicate clearly with colleagues and keep them updated on progress.
- Support client and marketing activities, including updating the CRM system.
Diary & Meeting Support
- Assist with diary updates, meeting room bookings and taxi arrangements.
- Provide support with travel bookings when required.
- Work closely with the person delegating the task to ensure arrangements are accurate and completed on time.

Document & File Management
- Create, format and manage electronic documents to a high standard.
- Check client and internal information carefully for accuracy.
- Open and close files and ensure records are correctly named, maintained and filed.
- Assist with file archiving and general document management.
Events & Client Activities
- Support the organisation of internal and external events, seminars and conferences.
- Manage registrations and assist with travel arrangements, including rail, air and taxi bookings.
- Prepare, print and distribute event materials.
General Administration
- Provide printing, copying and scanning support.
- Arrange hand deliveries and courier requests.
- Maintain accurate expense records.
- Assist with general administrative tasks and projects across the team.
Financial Administration
- Support finance and billing-related processes.
- Process expenses and ensure tasks are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.

You’ll be someone who is organised, proactive and comfortable working in a busy professional environment. You’ll take pride in getting the detail right while also being willing to roll up your sleeves and help wherever needed.

You’ll ideally have:
- Previous office-based administrative experience.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A professional and confident approach when dealing with internal clients and colleagues.
- The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise competing demands.
- A proactive, flexible and hands-on approach.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Confidence using technology and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Experience using document management or case management systems would be beneficial.
- A genuine commitment to providing excellent service and supporting those around you.

We’re looking for someone who spots what needs doing, communicates well and gets involved. You’ll be comfortable working independently but equally happy to collaborate with colleagues, provide cover when needed and contribute to improving the way the team works.
Accuracy, professionalism and reliability are important, but so is having the confidence to ask questions, seek guidance and learn from more experienced colleagues. You’ll also be expected to take part in relevant training and embrace opportunities to develop your skills and improve the way you work.
