The Opportunity
JB Leitch is undergoing a significant technology transformation, replacing its existing case management platform with Actionstep and Toca.io.
We're looking for an experienced Legal Technology Developer to join the team and play a key role in delivering, enhancing, and supporting our new technology environment.
This is a hands-on development role requiring proven Actionstep experience. You'll work closely with legal teams, operational stakeholders, and IT colleagues to develop applications, integrations, and automated workflows that support the delivery of legal services across the business.
The successful candidate will be able to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions and will have experience working within legal practice management systems and regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support solutions within Actionstep and Toca.io.
- Build and maintain integrations with internal and third-party systems using APIs and webhooks.
- Develop custom workflows, business logic, and automation solutions.
- Support data migration, system configuration, and platform enhancements.
- Design and maintain database structures, queries, and reporting solutions.
- Work with legal and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
- Create technical documentation and support testing and deployment activities.
- Ensure solutions meet security, confidentiality, audit, and compliance requirements.
- Contribute to development standards, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills and Experience
You must have:
- Minimum 5 years' hands-on software development experience.
- Proven experience developing solutions within Actionstep.
- Experience building applications, workflows, integrations, and automations in Toca.io.
- Strong development skills in at least one mainstream language such as C#,.NET, Java, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- Experience developing and supporting production business applications.
- Strong SQL and relational database skills, including schema design, data migration, and query optimization.
- Experience integrating systems using REST APIs, webhooks, and other integration technologies.
- Experience working with legal practice management systems or comparable line-of-business platforms.
- Understanding of matter management, client onboarding, document management, diary management, billing, and workflow automation.
- Experience using modern development practices including version control, testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
- Ability to gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders and translate them into effective technical solutions.

Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience of legal accounting or client account processes.
- Knowledge of SRA-regulated environments.
- Experience delivering case management system migrations.
- Experience working within professional services organizations.
- Experience developing bespoke legal technology solutions.
