Legal Technologist / Legal Technology Project Manager
Surrey | Full-time, permanent | Hybrid (two days per week in office) | Reporting to the CTO | £70,000-£100,000
About the business
Our client is a mid-sized, independent UK law firm of around 300 people, working from a single office. The firm has made legal technology and AI a firm-wide priority and runs a transformation programme across its legal and business teams, focused on improving how legal work is delivered through the responsible and secure use of technology, data and AI.
The role
This is a newly created position within the firm's Technology & Data team, forming part of its wider transformation and AI programme. It is a hands-on role centred on process automation, legal technology workflows and change management.
You will work closely with lawyers to identify where technology can improve how work is done, translate those needs into practical solutions, and support teams through adoption. The technology team is small, so the role involves regular contact with firm leadership and a high degree of ownership over delivery.
The firm typically expects a minimum of two days per week in the office, with more time on site during the initial settling-in period, although this may be flexible for specific cases.

What you will do
- Design, deliver and support technology-enabled processes for the firm's priority practice areas, with a focus on process automation.
- Work with firm leadership and the wider transformation team to identify, prioritise and deliver innovation initiatives.
- Gather requirements from legal teams and translate them into practical solutions.
- Co-design and build internal and client-facing processes using the firm's existing technology stack, including the supporting knowledge content, training and guidance.
- Support the rollout of new tools, working with Technology & Data and Risk & Compliance colleagues on trials, vendor selection, deployment planning, and tracking adoption and return on investment.
- Develop business case and ROI processes to prioritise and assess innovation projects.
- Build and lead communities of practice across the legal teams, working with innovation champions to share best practice.
- Design and deliver training on legal technology and generative AI, in partnership with the Learning & Development and Knowledge teams.
- Provide hands-on support to lawyers on tools, workflows and day-to-day questions.
- Monitor developments in legal AI, assess emerging tools and identify opportunities for experimentation.
- Communicate regularly with legal and business teams on innovation and efficiency initiatives, and promote the adoption of new ways of working across the firm.

About you
- You have experience delivering innovation or technology projects and supporting change management.
- You have worked in a legal environment, whether in a law firm, an in-house legal team or a legal technology company.
- You have hands-on experience with generative AI tools, including dedicated legal technology platforms.
- You have project management experience and can manage several priorities at once.
- You engage confidently with stakeholders and can translate between technical capability and how lawyers work day-to-day.
- You are pragmatic, comfortable working with ambiguity, and willing to be hands-on in building tools, processes and documents.
- You balance experimentation with risk awareness, governance and sound judgement.
- You are collaborative, with a service mindset and the ability to work across legal and business teams.
- A legal qualification would be advantageous.
