The rapid growth of AI in the legal sector - from large language models and agentic workflows to Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations - is reshaping how law firms deliver services. The Legal Technology Product Lead is a new role created to keep Bird & Bird at the forefront of this shift, with a sharp focus on AI strategy, performance tracking, technology governance, and the practical deployment of LLMs across the firm's operations.

Working closely with the Business Solutions and Infrastructure team, development partners, and business stakeholders across the firm, this role translates strategic technology priorities into a connected, coherent product experience. In addition to owning key parts of the product stack, you will drive the integration layer between applications and act as the bridge between emerging AI developments and the technology team - shaping use cases, influencing the IT roadmap, and prioritising high-value opportunities while keeping pace with tech.

This is not a purely technical role, nor a purely operational one. It requires someone with the presence and conviction to champion innovation within the technology team and beyond, and make the case - with data and credibility - for prioritising the work that will have the greatest impact. If you are energised by shaping a firm's technology direction and ensuring it stays ahead of a fast-moving market, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

LegalTech Product & Portfolio Ownership: Own and maintain a prioritised backlog of technology enhancements, integration requirements, and enablement initiatives across the firm's legal technology estate - including platforms such as Legora, HighQ, and other LegalTech solutions - as well as custom-built solutions. Drive adoption strategy and translate business needs into well-defined user stories, acceptance criteria, and sprint-ready work items. The role also benefits from the firm's access to the Microsoft Frontier programme, providing early exposure to cutting-edge AI capabilities and direct engagement with Microsoft's product teams.

Integration & Connectivity: Contribute to the integration strategy across the LegalTech application landscape - ensuring data flows cleanly between platforms such as Legora, Juristic, Betty Blocks, HighQ, and the wider Microsoft 365 ecosystem, that APIs are well-governed, and that new tools connect smoothly to the core technology stack without creating silos or duplication. Be the person who asks "how does this fit with everything else?" before anything is built or bought.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Market Intelligence & Adaptation: Stay closely attuned to emerging developments in legal technology and the broader AI market - including shifts in vendor pricing models (e.g. consumption-based pricing), new integration standards, and evolving regulatory expectations - and translate these insights into actionable recommendations that help the firm anticipate change rather than react to it.

AI Enablement: Support the introduction and optimisation of AI-enabled tools - including large language models, automation workflows, and agentic capabilities - ensuring they are integrated thoughtfully into legal workflows, governed appropriately, and understood by the people using them.

Vendor Collaboration: Work alongside the Solutions Architects on vendor evaluation, platform configuration decisions, and ongoing SaaS optimisation - ensuring we get the most from existing investments before pursuing new ones.

Measurement & Continuous Improvement: Define and track KPIs for product adoption, integration quality, and technology value delivery. Use data and user feedback to inform prioritisation and demonstrate outcomes to senior stakeholders.

Governance & Compliance: Collaborate with different stakeholders inside the firm regarding security, data protection, client confidentiality, information governance, and responsible AI standards.

What You'll Bring

Product & Delivery Experience: Significant experience in product management, product ownership, technology enablement, or business analysis within a digital or Agile environment. Exposure to SaaS platforms, custom-built solutions, or enterprise technology programmes is valued.

Integration Mindset: Solid understanding of how applications connect - APIs, MCPs, middleware, data pipelines, and integration patterns - with sufficient technical fluency to partner confidently with engineers and architects without needing to write code yourself.

Enablement & Change: Demonstrated experience designing and delivering adoption programmes, training, or change management initiatives that meaningfully increase technology usage and user confidence.

Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to manage diverse stakeholders, align competing priorities, and translate complex technical topics into plain language for senior non-technical audiences - and vice versa.

Legal Domain (Advantage): Familiarity with legal workflows and legal technology platforms - such as document management, knowledge management, contract analysis, or practice management systems. We will actively support the right person to build this knowledge.
