Legionella Risk Assessor – Uckfield
About the Role
Are you passionate about water hygiene and eager to shape a safer environment for public health? SOCOTEC’s rapidly expanding Water Hygiene Team is seeking a skilled Legionella Risk Assessor to join us in Uckfield. This role is your chance to excel professionally while making a direct impact on public health, environmental safety, and organisational compliance.
As part of our Environment & Safety consultancy business, you will:
- Conduct Legionella risk assessments for water systems
- Perform audits of management and monitoring regimes (aligned with ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS8580) -Execute water hygiene tasks, such as flushing outlets, verifying temperatures, and sampling
- Provide concept legal advise on regulatory legislation and practical guidance to clients
- Support quality assurance processes with regular internal checks on reports and assessments
The role balances infrequent travelling with office work, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work with diverse stakeholders ranging from public sector bodies to high-risk commercial organisations.

Key Responsibilities
Here’s a taste of your daily work:
- Undertake Legionella risk assessments of both existing and new water systems
- Design, implement, and modify written schemes of control with statutory compliance in mind
- Conduct internal audits of client management and preventative monitoring schemes, identifying risk gaps
- Manage sample collections for compliance and further analysis across varied system types
- Advise clients on corrective actions and future-proofing water hygiene controls
- Ensure adherence to internal quality processes, performing document checks and validation
Requirements & Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:
- Certified City & Guilds qualification in Legionella Risk Assessment
- Proven familiarity with ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS8580 guidelines
- An understanding of:
- Complex water systems (softening, vehicle washes, industrial processing)
- Corrective action plans and audits of written schemes of control
- Strong interpersonal skills for client communication (often with non-technical teams)
- Clear report-writing skills and ability to convert technical findings into layman-friendly advice
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (data management)
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance and willingness to undergo MOD security checks for relevant projects
