Level 2 Hairdressing Apprentice
Hayward Lane Hair & Beauty are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and motivated Level 2 Hairdressing Apprentice to join their busy established salon in Putnoe, Bedford. If you are enthusiastic about hairdressing, enjoy working with people and are ready to start your career in the industry, they would love to hear from you.
Wage:
£15,808 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age (National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices)
Training course:
Hairdressing professional (level 2)
Hours:
- Tuesday & Wednesday 9:00am to 6:00pm
- Thursday 9:00am to 5:00pm
- Friday 9:00am to 7:00pm
- Saturday 9:00am to 4:00pm (1-hour unpaid lunch break). 38 hours a week

Established in 2002 in the Putnoe area of Bedford, Hayward Lane Hair & Beauty is an established and well-regarded local salon with a strong reputation for quality, professionalism and customer service. Over the years, the salon has grown from its roots in hairdressing to offer a comprehensive range of hair and beauty services, including hair treatments, beauty treatments, spray tanning and sunbeds.
They have also worked with and stocked leading professional brands, including GHD, Matrix, Fake Bake and OPI. Their loyal customer base is at the heart of the business, with many clients having visited the salon for over a decade. This reflects the strong relationships they build with their clients and the consistently high standards of service they aim to provide.
Joining Hayward Lane Hair & Beauty offers the opportunity to become part of an established, customer-focused salon with a long history within the Bedford community.
You will learn and develop your skills across all areas of salon work, gaining valuable experience while providing excellent customer service to their loyal clientele.
As a Hairdressing Apprentice, you will work alongside their experienced salon team while developing your practical skills, confidence and knowledge within a professional salon environment. You will learn how to welcome clients and provide a warm, friendly and professional service, as well as shampoo and condition hair and assist stylists with client preparation and salon services.
As your skills and confidence develop, you will be given the opportunity to learn and carry out basic cutting, styling, finishing and blow-drying techniques. You will also develop your knowledge of hair colouring and learn how to carry out colour services safely and effectively under appropriate supervision.
You will play an important role in maintaining the smooth running and professional presentation of the salon. This will include preparing workstations and equipment, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, cleaning and caring for salon equipment and keeping the salon environment clean, tidy and welcoming.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be expected to follow salon health and safety procedures and maintain a professional approach at all times. You will also complete the coursework, assessments and practical training required to achieve your Level 2 Hairdressing qualification.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will receive structured training and ongoing support to help you develop both your practical hairdressing skills and your knowledge of the industry. You will work towards achieving a Level 2 Hairdressing Professional qualification while gaining valuable hands-on experience within the salon.
Your training will cover a wide range of essential hairdressing skills, including client consultation and customer care, shampooing and conditioning, cutting and styling, blow-drying and finishing, hair colouring, and hair and scalp care. You will also develop a strong understanding of health, safety and hygiene procedures, professional haircare products, salon standards and the importance of effective teamwork and professionalism.

What you'll learn
Course contents:
- Adhere to legal and organisational requirements for the safe use of products, tools, materials and equipment.
- Apply safe, hygienic, and effective methods of working and infection control, while completing hairdressing services.
- Use communication and etiquette that meets industry requirements, suits and is appropriate to the organisation.
- Maintain the client’s confidentiality and comfort (modesty, privacy) at the start and during the service.
- Advise clients (new and regular) pre, during and after service on the maintenance of the look, complementary services and retail products available in the salon.
- Promote yourself, your organisation, products and services via a variety of social channels.
- Carry out wider salon duties to support the salon business (e.g. services, bookings, payments, retail, upselling and sales).
- Use a range of products, tools, equipment used in Hairdressing services in accordance with legal organisational requirements.
- Complete and maintain client records in accordance with legal and organisational requirements.
- Work as part of a team to support the salon businesses.
- Use working methods that promote environmental and sustainable working practices.
- Carry out a consultation, examine and analyse the hair, skin and scalp and complete relevant industry tests (e.g. hair classification type and characteristics tests).
- Identify (question/observation) any contraindications or limiting factors that are likely to affect or influence the service.
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp.
- Dry and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a range of looks, that meets the intended shape, direction, balance and volume agreed with the client.
- Use current setting and dressing techniques to create a range of looks that meets the intended shape, direction, balance, and volume agreed with the client.
- Cut hair using a range of technical skills and cutting techniques to create a range of looks, considering weight distribution, cutting angles, balance and degree of graduation, and the natural growth patterns of the hair, length of the hair (club cutting, scissor over comb, clipper over comb, texturising, freehand, thinning, layering and razor cutting).
- Restyle hair to create a personalised short or medium (above the shoulder) length hair cut, changing the shape, length and style hair using a range of cutting techniques.
- Complete a range of hair colouring and lightening services to change the depth and tone using current colouring techniques (e.g. freehand techniques, woven highlights or lowlights, root re-touch, half head and full head application, temporary, semi-permanent, demi-permanent, quasi-permanent, permanent colour and lighteners).
- Evaluate the results of the service.

Other requirements:
