Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship
The Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship equips learners with the skills and knowledge to support the safe delivery of pharmacy services. Apprentices develop expertise in customer service, stock management, dispensing support, and medicines supply while working in a pharmacy setting and earning a recognised qualification.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Assisting customers with prescriptions and general enquiries
- Supporting the dispensing of medicines under supervision
- Ordering, receiving and managing pharmacy stock
- Checking and storing deliveries safely and accurately
- Maintaining accurate pharmacy records and documentation
- Promoting healthcare services and healthy living advice
- Processing sales and handling payments
- Ensuring the pharmacy is clean, organised and compliant with regulations
- Supporting the pharmacy team with day-to-day operations
- Following confidentiality, health and safety, and safeguarding procedures

Pharmacy services assistant (level 2)
Course contents
- Receive and log prescriptions
- Assemble prescribed items, undertake an in-process accuracy check and issue prescribed items
- Work according to legislative requirements, and organisational policies
- Order, receive, maintain and issue pharmaceutical stock
- Provide appropriate advice when authorised on supplied medicines and products, their storage and disposal
- Work within the parameters of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the pharmacy
- Act in accordance with systems and organisational governance
- Recognise and act within the pharmacy regulatory, legal and ethical standards
- Support the team in the development of others
- Maintain and further develop your own skills and knowledge through development activities; maintain evidence of your personal development and actively prepare for and participate in appraisal
- Communicate effectively with the public, carers and other health and social care professionals using a range of techniques to determine their needs, and keep information confidential
- Handle information (record, report and store information) related to individuals and/or patients in line with local and national policies
- Use pharmacy IT systems and other IT resources according to legislative requirements and organisational policies
- Demonstrate person centred care and support within a pharmacy setting
- Make pharmacy patients and patient safety your first concern
- Use judgement and refer service user as appropriate to another member of the team, GP, healthcare worker, manufacturer etc
- Maintain the interests of patients and the health of the public
- Promote and advocate equality, diversity and inclusion
- Promote healthy lifestyles to customers
- Work safely within the parameters of your role using Standard Operating Procedures
- Apply policies which relate to health and safety at work
- Act appropriately in situations to prevent harm to yourself and others

Training schedule
This apprenticeship is delivered 100% remotely, allowing apprentices to complete their training and attend all learning sessions online while gaining practical experience in the workplace. Dedicated tutor support is provided throughout the programme via virtual meetings, online resources, and regular progress reviews.

Located within Regis Medical Centre in Rowley Regis, Hingley Pharmacy is a busy and well-established community pharmacy dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services and patient support. The pharmacy offers a wide range of NHS and private services, including prescription dispensing, Pharmacy First consultations, health advice, smoking cessation support, vaccinations, and medicines management. Working alongside an experienced and supportive team, apprentices will gain valuable hands-on experience in customer service, dispensing support, stock management, and the day-to-day operations of a modern community pharmacy while helping to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community.
Your earnings can increase over time with an apprenticeship. Upon successful completion of the Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship, apprentices can progress into a permanent Pharmacy Services Assistant or Dispensing Assistant role. They may also choose to continue their professional development by undertaking the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship, leading to increased responsibilities and career opportunities within community, hospital, or primary care pharmacy settings.
